Reinforced policing on Ipanema beach, south zone of Rio de Janeiro

Rio - The Saturday of crowded beaches and thermometers marking 34 degrees in Rio was also marked by confusion and robberies in the sands of Rio. Despite the increase in the number of the Military Police to monitor the border in Operation Praia, at least six occurrences were registered and four people were arrested.

According to a report released by the PM, on the beaches of the southern zone there were two prisons for robbery, a robbery case, two people detained for possession of drugs and a fight in the sands of Ipanema. In Arpoador, adolescents were provoking turmoil in the sand and were contained by the Municipal Guard. In the western zone of Rio, there was no record of occurrences on the beaches.

A man was arrested by police officers of the 23rd Military Police Battalion on Viera Souto Avenue, on the Ipanema border, in the southern zone, after stealing a pedestrian. Already the fight recorded between positions 8 and 9, also in Ipanema, scared the bathers. According to the PM, a man was detained and taken to the 14th DP in Leblon.

Since last Friday, the beaches of Leme to Ipanema have received support from the Tactical Force of the 1st Area Police Command, with 20 more military police and five vehicles. The reinforcement in policing resulted in the arrest of 27 people on Friday itself.

Operation Beach started in September and runs through the end of the summer. On weekends and holidays up to 850 military police officers from different units will be distributed at different points from Flamengo to Pontal beach, with policing on foot, with bicycles, quadricycles, vehicles and helicopters. During the other days of the week, the Rio de Janeiro border will be patrolled by the battalions of the areas with the support of police officers from the Battalion of Policing in Major Events (BPGE) and the Tactical Force of the 1st CPA.
